We spent Friday familiarizing ourselves with our new territory. We walked on the beach, picked up some groceries at Publix and then spent the rest of the day around the park. We were really surprised that we didn’t have the weekend surge of campers especially since it was a holiday weekend. It is very peaceful here.
After spending a leisurely morning around the house on Saturday, we realized we had missed the local July 4th parade. We made our way to Flamingo Island Flea Market (http://flamingoisland.com/index.html) where they were celebrating with a pig roast and live music. It’s a nice market, not air conditioned but breezy and not too hot. The people were friendly and we spread some “red, white & blue” cheer through the crowd with patriotic tattoos. We enjoyed the smiles and laughter that these small gifts brought to people. The lady pictured with me below, was excited to “have something to talk about” and quickly talked one of her girlfriends into getting one also. Isn’t she cute?
Later in the day, Stephan spoiled us with grilled porterhouse steaks. They were delicious and much more than the four of us could consume.
In the evening, we were blessed with a fireworks show visible from our livingroom window. It was great sitting in the air conditioning, in our pajamas watching our own “private” show. We still aren’t sure if it was the Bonita Springs town show or some other professionally handled affair. Either way, we enjoyed it!
